ROOM ELEMENTS & DETAILS

WINDOWS & DRAPERY
Exquisite French lace curtains are pulled back with Swiss floral embroidered ribbon, which has been applied on top of a blue scalloped ribbon.

Matching Lee Jofa chintz and wallpaper, with a custom cornice. Note the second fabric and fringe applied to the valence, as a border.

Custom hand painted silk dupioni window cornice.

Matelasse lined with silk, with French antique brass holdbacks.

FABRICS
Seven different fabrics work well together, as they are all
in the same palette.

Toile fabric upholstered powder room walls.

LAMPS & SHADES
Silk chandelier shades with hand painted gold interiors produce a lovely, soft glow of light at night. Silk covered chain.

A South African vase was custom made into a lamp. The shade has a sheer coordinate to the headboard fabric. It is finished with Nina Campbell turquoise glass bead and silk trim.

This lampshade was embellished with ribbons and ruched trim. The base was painted to match.

An Italian antique putto lamp (one of a coordinating pair) with a custom shade covered in
Florentine marbled paper and silk fringe.

Chinese porcelain figurines (a woman and a man) have silk lampshades with hand ruched tops and bottoms.

Pleated sisk shades with diminutive gimp trimming.

Handmade Brunschwig & Fils silk border trimming on silk plaid.

Two different pompom trims (above and below).

Even the simplest white shade can be enhanced with sedate trims.

CEILINGS & WALLS
The ceiling of a masculine library was glazed to evoke the feeling of a cigar-smoke-stained gentlemen's club.

Cathedral ceiling of a Cape Cod breakfast room, painted as a rosy sunrise.

Antique framed portrait hung with hand dyed silk ribbon.

THROW PILLOWS

Silk pinstripe pillows, a hand painted boudoir pillow
and custom quilted floral fabric from Brunschwig & Fils

I love mixing fabrics for pillows.

I love plaids and florals together.

More mixed fabrics.

Two different Scalamandre fabrics, and their fabulous pleated ribbon trim (above and below).

A woven ribbon pillow with white pique cording.

A brush fringe just makes this box pillow.

Custom cashmere monogram pillows were my gift to newlywed friends.

CUSTOM MONOGRAMS
Custom monogram with leafy letters

This monogram incorporates the French fleur-de-lys.

Both machine and hand embroidery grace this bedding.

 FRAMED ART & PHOTOS
Simple black silhouettes are a perfect foil for the mix of floral and plaid fabrics here.

MEMO BOARDS
I love using gorgeous fabrics for memo boards. I always secure the criss-crosses ribbons with something interesting, such as these little brass fleur-de-lys.

Upholstered memo wall in Kate's design atelier/office at Tranquility Lodge.
The entire wall was upholstered in fabric, and then the trim was added.

CHINA, SILVER & COLLECTIBLES

Hand painted tiles with themes similar to the animals in the toile wallpaper.
