COME HOME TO ILLUSION
The kitchen in Kate Dickerson's Hingham home is testimony to her love of color and trompe l'oeil.
"Trompe l'oeil painting should transport the viewer into a place in the imagination," said Dickerson, who has a fine arts degree from Connecticut College.

"It should allow the viewer to actually feel the emotions associated with being in another time and place while knowing that the scene is faux painted."
Her bright red kitchen is filled with paintings of farm animals: pigs, ducks and lambs, plus vegetables and herbs, birds and topiaries. She wanted to bring the ambience of a farmhouse kitchen in the south of France to her New England home.
"I also like to add little bits of humor to my murals," said Dickerson, "like a client's pet peeking around a corner, or adding stains to a faux postcard to make it look more real."

Everything on this wall is painted, except for the doorbell. Window, stone block wall,
plates and framed silhouettes are all trompe l'oeil - illusions painted on a flat wall.
